Q: Dear Casey,
I recently went through your talk with Antonio Centano on Real Men Real Style, and I was very impressed by your knowledge on Denim. Also, the information about denim on your website was very interesting to me. I am 34 years old, 5 feet 10 in and 138 lbs. I work as an Executive in a US Software Firm. I am looking to buy a pair of premium jeans which suit my body type and age. I can wear both casual and also with a nice shirt, blazer as a dress jean. I have attached 3 pictures of myself wearing Guess Jeans, 30 W, 32 L. Please suggest 3 varieties that would suit me with your extensive knowledge on this subject. It would be great if you can detail out the brand, wash, and fit so that I can look for specifics when I am buying them in stores. Thanks alot in advance. -A
A: Dear A,
Thank you for your great email and images; you make is so easy. If you share your location with me I am happy to suggest a great store to support in your neighborhood as well. So, Let’s get started- How do you select your denim? You need at lease 3 pair of jeans to get the most bang for your buck otherwise you will kill the first pair of jeans you buy. I suggest a “going out/work” pair that are easy to pair with a blazer. My pick: The Graduate in the Robinson dark wash. Why? Because these will be your bread & butter, the go-to’s in your closet you can wear them day in and day out. The fabric is soft unlike a raw selvege denim and will be more of a comfort fit. The last thing I want is a newby jumping of a cliff and not being cozy in the office. Being able to wear jeans at work is fantastic but they not nly need to be appropriate but also comfortable.
